urushi {cutlery set} & kokeshi {wooden dolls}
Thursday, February 25th, 2010
This is indeed a beautifully hand-crafted urushi cutlery set for kids from co.zen. Urushi, also known as Japanese lacquer ware, is made from the sap of a tree and is one of the most durable natural lacquers. Hardened urushi is water and acid proof, and also protects the object from heat, salt, mold and mildews. A little more interesting information on urushi here. {via Spoon & Tomago}

Pen Pencil Stencil is the studio and workspace of designer Mark Giglio and he has made a beautiful collection of kokeshi dolls (with an artistic twist) from scrap wood. Inspired to create some of your own?
