Christmas craft : {Nativity set}

Friday, December 4th, 2009

“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.’”

Some beautiful Nativity sets to inspire you to make and tell the story of Christmas with your kids. Happy weekend!

Christmas craft : {advent calendar}

Friday, November 20th, 2009

The origin of the Advent calendar can be traced back to Christian Protestant families in the 19th century. Many families would make chalk markings in their homes to note the days of Advent or hang up small pictures to count off each day. By the early 1900s, however, commercially manufactured Advent calendars were available to the general public. Some newspapers would also print calendars at the start of Advent as a holiday gift to their readers. via Love to know

For me, I’m reminded to expectantly keep in mind this Advent season “……. the God who in his surpassing mercy is continually at work. He spoke forth his Word in history through mighty acts and fragile lives. He gently reached into the world with the quiet arrival of an infant king. He grievously crossed the threshold of our corrupted hearts with the Cross. And we are renewed day by day with the eternal weight of glory, the certainty of things unseen, indeed, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ”. (excerpt from The Weight of Certainty, Slice of Infinity, RZIM)

Time to start on your Advent Calendar if you’ve not made one yet. Pam from Gingerbread Snowflakes has graciously shared this wonderful how-to make a giant advent house calendar with all. Her creativity is definitely inspiring. More than just a step-by-step tutorial, Pam also tells about her process in creating this.
